Rotaractors from RAC Manila Invades Vigan for PROCON 2020

The 9th Pilipinas Rotaract Convention 2020 or PROCON 2020 was held last February 21 to 24, 2020. This year, the convention took the Rotaractors back in time by bringing them to the historical city of Vigan in Ilocos Sur which is known for its scenic venues where time seemed to have stopped at the Spanish Colonial Era. The convention is held every year to bring together different Rotaract clubs to commemorate the effort and achievements of each Rotaract Club around the Philippines.

This wasn’t my first PROCON, but I can say that my experience this year was a little unique and special. Before the event and festivities began, we decided to take a little detour and spend our time in one of the hidden beaches near the city. The beach was only a ten-minute tricycle ride from the place we stayed in and it wasn’t very known, so we had the beach to ourselves. That provided much needed rest and relaxation for me and my club mates as it prepared us for all the festivities PROCON had prepared for us.

This year’s PROCON is a bit unique because compared to the previous PROCON, there wasn’t just one venue. There were MULTIPLE venues spread across Vigan City which aimed to make sure that you see all that the city had to offer.

The First day started with the Rotaract Festival where different booths were set-up by different districts that featured different products that were known to each club’s region. This festival helped us connect with different clubs in far off districts as we get to know how diverse their clubs are. The first night closed off with an amazing dinner held in the center of Vigan City.

The Second Day was when the Amazing Race was held. We started off as early as 4 am because we had a lot of things to do and a lot of places to go. The Amazing Race had us go to 16 different sites in Vigan City where we had to solve puzzles and gave us the chance to appreciate the historical sites and try Vigan’s amazing food.

The Amazing Race exhausted us a lot. We weren’t even able to eat lunch because we had to go straight to bed after. What came after the break though was my most awaited event, and that is the Fellowship Night. I love going to Fellowship nights as this is an avenue where I can mingle with different Rotaractors, eat good food, and drink with different clubs. The night was so fun, we had to extend our fellowship to an afterparty to better know the people we built relationships that day.

We closed PROCON in the third day, with a community service project where the Rotaractors help fix a nearby school. Efforts such as cleaning the school, repainting the walls, and recovering the books were made to help to local school.

This year’s PROCON was a bit special for me since it gave me a much-needed break. It was both fun and tiring, but I guess that’s just me getting old. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year’s PROCON which will be held in the City of Angels, Pampanga.
