Rotary Santa is in Town

Christmas traditions have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic; so much so, that the joy hasn’t hit families just yet. Until they saw Santa again.

Rotarian Addryan Rommel Martires of the Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo (D3850) played the role for the first time as Santa Claus for Day 1 of the club’s ‘Santa is Coming to Town’ activity—annual commitment of Christmas gift giving to 138 adopted children with disabilities.

Rotarian Addryan could not contain his happiness as he saw the big smiles and joy when kids received their gifts from their foster godparents. Gifts include a set of pajamas, underwear, bath towel, vitamins, food treats, and more.

Partners like Philippine Dental Association Aklan Chapter and Infant Jesus Academy prepared Rotary Show Box with WASH essentials (mask, toiletries such as toothbrush/toothpaste, detergent, hand soap, face towel, ear buds, toilet paper) and some paper, pen/crayon, coloring books, teen shirt, toys, candies, etc. There were even Christmas cards and socks with more goodies.

Rotarians, led by president Rosie Reyes, also contributed to fill in the empty shoe boxes used for the said Rotary Show Box. They made an eco-consicous effort to use recycled boxes and avoid fancy plastic wrapper and ribbons.

Prior to the gift giving, media partner Kalibo Love Radio 100.1 FM played a ‘Who is Santa Claus Guessing Game’ on air from December 12 to 15. Winners of the game received a big noche buena package from Public Image Director PP Megs Lunn.

Nothing is more important in life than to give happiness to the less fortunate, amidst the crisis brought about by the pandemic. Christmas is not cancelled after all.
