Young Love, Safe Love (A Webinar About Teenage Pregnancy)

Last January 21, the Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS) family hosted a webinar entitled “Young Love, Safe Love.” This webinar focused on Teenage Pregnancy, Single Blessedness, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and the perks and dangers of young love.

The Rotary Hymn, Four-Way Test Song and House Rules were shown as prelude. Then, Transforming President (TP) Guia Lopez de Leon of RCSPS started the session with a Call to Order.

Prayer was then led by Charter President Deng Latayan Lado-ing of the Rotary Club (RC) of Metro Malvar. After the prayer, National Anthem was played by Zoom Tech Support Piolo Gadiana of the Rotaract Club of San Pedro South (RACSPS).

Opening Remarks highlighted that “The Youth must change the world, not change the diapers.” TP Dey Dionido of RC Atimonan Lakambini also talked about the importance of conducting a seminar like this.

The Resource Person, Missionary JC Arevalo of the Live Pure Movement, was then introduced by TP Guia. (Special thanks to President Nominee Joy Lagrimas for tapping this powerful and purpose-driven speaker.)

Missionary JC then discussed his presentation with clarity and conviction. He reminded everyone about the importance of chastity and purity. He further emphasized that, “We are design to love and be loved.” Sex is so sacred… it is love giving and life giving.

A life testimony was then shared by Ms. Anna Medel Cruz, a bonafide member of Live Pure Movement. She narrated her inspiring love story. This made the hearts of the listeners truly melt.

Open Forum Moderators were TP Belinda Barroga of RC Santa Rosa Centro and Past President Win Serrano of the RCSPS – New Generations. TP Belinda spoke about “Happy Single Life.” She mentioned the many advantages and blessings of being single.

Afterwards, PP Win tackled about the different kinds of Sexually-Transmitted Infections (STIs). He emphasized that adolescents are at higher risk for acquiring STIs or STDs because of biology, lack of access to health care, insufficiency of screening, or even having multiple sex partners.

The Certificates were then presented by TP Ethel Fe Reuyan of the Rotary Club of Pila West. She also acknowledged the presence of many dignitaries from District 3820. Under the loving supervision of District Governor (DG) Ray Atienza, also present were Deputy DG Alex Reuyan of Area 1, TP Loveday Alyssa of RC Tayabas Central, TP Fatima Acuna of RC Lipa Midwest, TP Rowena Esguerra of RC Balayan, TP Amy Lea of RC Lucena University District, TP Carlo Manas of RC Bay, etc.

Afterwards, Youth Leaders namely Charter President Julian Adique of the Rotaract San Pedro All Star (RACSPA), and Club Secretary Mabeh Matienzo of the RACSPS led their own segment entitled “Creativity Time.”

A Closing Remarks based on the reality was then rendered by President Nominee Kristina Tulauan of RC Santa Rosa West (RCSRW). She challenged fellow Rotarians to find ways to make lives better for the affected youngsters, especially in this time of pandemic.

Before her adjournment, TP Guia mentioned that there will be a part 2 of this webinar. Due to time constraints, the PowerPoint Presentation of “Love Guru” Jo Santiago, Safe Sex 101 by President-Elect Pyker Luthgard of RCSRW, and “What is Love, What Love is Not” by the advisers of Interact Club of Adelina 1 National High School will hopefully be presented as Pre-Valentine Special.

Serving as the 51st Club Meeting of the RCSPS family, it was RACSPA’s Victor James Escolano who had served as the efficient over-all moderator.
