Rotary Club of Kalibo continues its Water and Sanitation Project for Barangay Andagao

In celebration of the World Water Day last March 22, the Rotary Club of Kalibo (RCK) conducted its ongoing Water and Sanitation with Hygiene Project at Brgy. Andagao, Kalibo, Aklan.

Last March 25, RCK provided plastic water containers with a faucet that has a 4-liter capacity to 20 beneficiary families who live just outside the gate of the RCK Livelihood and Training Center.

RCK does not have to look far for communities in need of free, clean, potable and safe water. The club knows that water is a fundamental need used for hydration, food preparation or to clean oneself. Simply put, provision of water is an essential step in improving living standards. However, even in populated and urbanized areas, access to clean water may be limited. With no water, sanitation is also a problem. Lack of proper sanitation breeds diseases, affects the health of families and education of the children. It also robs people of their basic human dignity.

RCK has provided access to a water source to the residents of this water-deprived community who are typically economically poor and are trapped in an ongoing cycle of poverty. With the provision of clean water, RCK has helped alleviate their hardship and has contributed to helping keep the community healthy and clean. The children helped fill sand in the bags to cover and elevate the muddy area, arrange them at the water station where they get their clean water drinking supply.

The families were very appreciative to receive the support of the RCK. On hand to present the distribution of the plastic water containers to the families in need were President Leo Martinez, Past Presidents Vady Marin and Dennis Lim.

This activity was also a response to March as the Water & Sanitation Month for Rotary.
