RCSPS President Celebrates Earth Day 2021 with RI President Knaack and RCBI

April 22, 2021 marks the 51st anniversary of Earth Day. In 1970, according to EarthDay.org, about 20 million people were united to demand greater attention to the protection of the planet. Since then, activists have gathered each year to mark the day.

Rotary International (RI) President Holger Knaack shared his views and enthusiasm about Earth Day. He emphasized the role of Rotary for the environment and sustainability in this “new normal” after COVID-19.

The theme for Earth Day 2021 is “Restore Our Earth,” and its focus is on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems. TP Guia was also able to join the Talk Show with RI President Knaack and world leaders for Earth Day 2021 live via https://youtu.be/kICYfJ0qdrE. Indeed, the mitigation and adaptation are some of the ways to address climate change.

The “Talk Show with RI President Holger and other Rotarians and VIPs” was hosted by Rotary Club Brasilia International (RCBI), Rotaract BIO, Rotary District 4530, and other co-host Clubs. It was truly a unique opportunity to entice club members to embrace the Seventh Area of Focus, Supporting the Environment, in respective communities with great enthusiasm to serve.

Rotary Club of San Pedro South Transforming President Guia de Leon was able to attend the event. President Guia in her speech for the Silver Anniversary of RCSPS said, “May we be reminded of what is at stake for the planet. May we be good, once and for all, to the environment and to ourselves. May we be able to reduce, reuse, recycle at all times for our Mother Earth. Yes, may this Rotary Year mark the year we stop taking our planet for granted.”

Amazon Rainforests, Carbon Footprints, Local Policies, Survey and Awareness, Training and Seminars, among many other interesting topics, were tackled in the two-hour webinar. This Zoom Event was moderated by RCBI President Alberto Palombo, RI Director Mario Cesar, and Governor Vera Avila.

Finally, the Rotarians are catalysts of change not only in Disaster Response, but most importantly in preventing the disasters brought by climate change and environmental destruction to happen. The Rotarians across the globe have been demonstrating a strong commitment to service through personal involvement in various aspects. Rotarians are, indeed, part of making Earth Day every day.

The Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS) team of Rotary International District 3820 under District Governor Ray Atienza usually just shares #EarthAppreciation posts for Earth Day but this year, Transforming President (TP) Guia Lopez de Leon of RCSPS participated and covered some Earth Day online events.
