Our Clubs

Project: H2O by RCSPS and RCLC

Every 15th day of May, the International Day of Families is being observed. The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993, and it reflects the importance the international community attaches to families.

Families, be it traditional or non-traditional, are the building blocks of our society. We are who we are, a magical part of life’s tapestry, because of our families.

The Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS) and Rotary Club of Lucena Central (RCLC), Sister Clubs, are simple and yet active clubs that are both celebrating their 25th Year this Rotary Year.

RCSPS and RCLC, under the leadership of District Governor Renato Sarmiento Atienza of Rotary International District 3820, have year-round projects that cater to seven areas of focus of Rotary namely Supporting the environment, Peacebuilding and conflict prevention, Disease prevention and treatment, Water, sanitation and hygiene, Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, and Community economic development.

Amazingly, the UN General-Assembly also declares every 16th day of May as the International Day of Living Together in Peace and International Day of Light. This serves as a means of regularly mobilizing the efforts of the international community to promote peace, tolerance, inclusion, understanding and solidarity.

This extremely hot summer of 2021, starting on March 10, Transforming President (TP) Guia Lopez de Leon of RCSPS and TP Jay Marvin Villamin of RCLC have been giving away free iced cold water or H2O to various sectors of the community. They hope to quench the thirst of drivers, vendors, traffic enforcers, religious leaders, frontliners and more thru “Project: H20.”

Finally, may we be able to reflect on just what family means to us. May we bear in mind that family isn’t always blood. May we always aim to transform our thoughts towards Unity, to transform our words towards Kindness, and to transform our actions towards Peace.

Together, we unite with peace and kindness.
