May is the Youth Service Month for all the Rotary Clubs across the globe.
And the Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS), under the wings of District Governor Renato Sarmiento Atienza of Rotary International District 3820, is celebrating it with extra sweetness.
Despite being on MECQ, donuts are being personally delivered by Transforming President (TP) Guia Lopez de Leon to their youngsters. The youth sectors of RCSPS are the following: Rotaract Club of San Pedro South (RACSPS), Rotaract Club of San Pedro All Star (RACSPA), Interact Adelina 1 National High School (IA1NHS), and of course, the RCSPS – New Generations. Immediate Past President Vic Almeda is the main sponsor of this very thoughtful gesture.
At the same time, RCSPS supports the projects of Anahaw, an environmental organization based in Laguna. It was Justin Paolo Interno, a new Rotarian of RCSPS, who had started Anahaw. TP Guia is one of their Board Members, too.
The ongoing project is entitled “Cups to Crops.” Pre-cleaned, intact, used milk tea cups and PET bottles are being collected to sustain the Community Plant-ry or free distribution of seeds, seedlings and organic fertilizers. The cups and bottles are being used as seedling cups. All these will then be distributed for free to aspiring “plantitos and plantitas” (plant enthusiasts) in the community.
To date, 4,096 seedlings composed of eggplant, red chili, green chili, and bitter gourd were already given at the Community Plant-ry. It has become a very successful project because of the following supportive partners and sponsors: RACSPA, Villa Olympia 1 Subdivision Homeowners Association Inc., Farm-Ready GG Seedling Corporation thru East-West Seed Foundation Inc., Pacita Organic Garden, City Agriculture Office – San Pedro, Laguna, Barangay Maharlika, and of course, all the “plantitos and plantitas.”
