Rotary Supports Mangrove Reforestation

Rotarians from District 3800 Zone 8 trooped to Real, Quezon in spite of overcast skies last July 16, 2021 to help plant mangrove seedlings.

Mangroves help form a protective   barrier against floods brought about by storms and soil erosion with their roots which also help form habitats for fish. The intrepid Rotarians: Life Changing Presidents, Assistant Governors and a Senior Assistant Governor rode bankas to get to the project site.

In spite being submerged in knee deep water and dark skies overhead, they went about planting the seedlings. Mayor Abigail Aquino expressed her gratitude to the group for the support given for environmental protection.  She was also elated with the four large plastic alcohol filled containers given to help combat the spread of COVID, disease prevention being one of Rotary’s areas of focus.

This annual mangrove tree planting has been an RC Wack Wack tradition for the past 14 years and was first  spearheaded by PP Al Viscocho of said club. The Mandaluyong clubs that participated in this year’s undertaking are: RC Mandaluyong (Mother Club), RC Mandaluyong West, RC Mandaluyong North, RC Mandaluyong Central, RC Mandaluyong East, RC Mandaluyong Uptown, RC Wack Wack (Lead Club), RC ManPaSan, RC Greater Mandaluyong, RC Southern Mandaluyong, RC Mandaluyong Premier and RC Mandaluyong Biyaya.
