This July, we are celebrating the 44th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week.
Last July 18, 2022, on behalf of Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo Pres. Romeo Reyes, Jr., PP Ricky I. Molo, our PWD Chair, represented our club through the invitation of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Balete and Municipal Social Welfare Development Office (MSWDO), in cooperation with Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) and in partnership with PWD Balete Association.
The topics and keynote speakers were PP Ricky I. Molo on “Empowering PWDs through Assistive Devices and NGO Linkages”; Disability Affairs Officer I of PDAO Mr. Randy Anthony A. Rebaldo on “Empowering PWDs through Philippine Laws and Policies”; and Social Services Committee Chair Ms. Prescilla Gale S. Calizo on “Empowering PWDs through Responsive Governance and Social Services”.
The theme this year is, “Pamahalaan kabalikat sa Pagpapatupad ng Pantay na Edukasyon, Trabaho at Kabuhayan, tugon sa Pagpapalakas ng Taong May Kapansanan”. (Empowering Persons with Disabilities Through Responsive Policies, Programs, and Services). During the event, the LGU Balete distributed some wheelchairs and cash assistance grants to members of PWDs Association. A few of their members were also recipients of prosthetic legs through our Rotary Project WALK, latest of which is Ms. Loremei R. Rodriguez.
Also present were Municipal Mayor Dexter M. Calizo and Vice Mayor Patrick F. Lachica, Focal Persons for PWDs Mr. Woody A. Francisco, PWD Balete Association President Ms. Pavel L. Billones, and LGU Balete Committee Chair on PWDs Sangguniang Bayan member Inocentes F. Bantique, Sr. It was held at the Mayor Teodoro F. Calizo, Sr. Memorial Civic Center, Poblacion, Balete, Aklan.
