RC Kalibo launches 90-day Care for the Children: Feeding Program

August 8, 2022 marks a very important date not only for the Rotary Club of Kalibo, but for the children beneficiaries of the Aeta Village of Brgy. Aliputos, Numancia, Aklan.

On this day, a milestone is etched as the 90-day Care for the Children: Feeding Program is initiated for 51 children 12 years of age and below in this Ati Village. What made this project a very successful one, even at its initiation, is the forged partnership between stakeholders and partners. Rotary Club of Kalibo headed by Pres. Nikki Tayco is joined by the Aklan Medical Society led by Dr. Glenford Refre, Philippine Pediatric Society, Western Visayas Chapter led by Dr. Ester Alfaro, Philippine Dental Association, Aklan Chapter led by Dr. Ma. Dexely Matira, Philippine Medical Association of New England led by Dr. Maria Batilo, Metro Kalibo Water District led by Engr. Lydio Ureta, Kalibo Cable TV Network Inc. led by Mr. Robert Bien Sazon, Love Radio Kalibo led by Mr. Ken Loveras, and the Barangay LGU of Aliputos Numancia led by Brgy. Capt. James Fernandez.

This partnership was sealed with the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement. The 90-day Feeding Program will focus on providing efforts to address the prominent problem of malnutrition, hunger, and food insecurity in this chosen community. It is hoped that through this project there will be improvement in the nutrition, health and welfare of the Ati children in Barangay Aliputos and increased awareness and understanding on health and nutrition among the adults.

The Rotary Club of Kalibo selected the Ati Village in Barangay Aliputos to be the beneficiaries for this noble project because of its unique concerns and needs. Kalibo Rotarians, and Rotarians around the globe, have continually adapted and improved the way they respond to those needs, taking on a broad range of service projects.

And for this signature project of RC Kalibo, the club intends to provide not only food to support the nutritional needs of the children but all other areas of focus of the Rotary International which are: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution, Disease prevention and treatment, Water and sanitation, Maternal and child health, Environment, Basic education and literacy, and Economic and community development.

The Feeding program is held in the common service hall of the Ati Village in Barangay Aliputos, starting August 8, 2022 until November 8, 2022, every 4:00 in the afternoon, Monday-Saturday. Medical missions, literacy and education program as well as livelihood training activities will be done every weekend to members of the community.
