Six Rotary clubs in San Pedro mount Project MALAYA

On October 2020, the Area 1 Group 1 (A1G1) of Rotary International District 3820 came together as one in another worthwhile project for the community

A1G1 or the six clubs based in San Pedro City, Laguna are the Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS), the Rotary Club of San Pedro (RCSP), the Rotary Club of Metro San Pedro (RCMSP), the Rotary Club of Cosmopolitan City of San Pedro (RCCCSP), the Rotary Club of San Pedro Magic (RCSPM), and the Rotary Club of San Pedro South-New Generations (RCSPS – NG). Together with District Governor (DG) Renato Sarmiento Atienza, Deputy DG Alex Reuyan, DG Aide Ronnie Santiago and Assistant Governor Edgar Cavite, they successfully launched “Project: Malaya.”

The project aims to support the livelihood program of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) especially during their National Correctional Consciousness Week 2020 (NACOCOW 2020).

The prisoners are creating and selling their handmade products from recycled materials. The bestsellers include lamp shade at P400, galleon in a bottle at P600, wallet at P60, swan decor at P200, and photo frame at P120. Aside from their prowess to present good quality products, the A1G1 Rotarians appreciate how they put high regard on Rotary’s seventh area of focus, supporting the environment.

Recycling can prevent those hard-to-decompose or non-biodegradable materials, mostly made up of plastics, from ending up in landfills and oceans. A1G1 is, fortunately, united in building a better world socially, economically and environmentally.

This project will run from October to November, or until supplies last. For those who are interested to purchase, kindly contact the following Transforming Presidents (TP) namely TP Guia Lopez de Leon (RCSPS), TP Jeanette Rodelas (RCMSP), TP Zaldy Reyes (RCSPS – NG), TP Alex Melgar (RCCCSP), TP Benjamin Garcia (RCSP) or TP Arman Santos (RCSPM) at 09566176917.

This project is, indeed, synonymous with sustainability. The team is fortunate to be able to support a helpless community, to establish a stronger union with fellow Rotarians, and to take good care of the environment… all rolled into one.
