What happened at the 2019 Philippine Rotary Magazine Awards

Philippine Rotary honored the Rotarians and Rotary clubs, District Governors and Rotary districts that took the Philippine Rotary Magazine a step forward. It also marked the year of Past District Governor (PDG) Ed Chiongbian as the chairman of the Philippine Rotary Magazine Foundation, Inc. (PRMFI).

Held at the Turf Room of the Manila Polo Club in Makati City, the familial gathering of 53 Rotary leaders had for its guest of honor, RI Director (RIDE) Raffy Garcia and his spouse Minda. Chiongbian, PDG Tony Quila (chairman of the management board), PDG Chit L. Lijauco (editor-in-chief), PDG Sue Sta. Maria (managing editor), and the office staff of Philippine Rotary (Office Manager Nelson Lluz, Ana Padua, Beth Seva, Marlo Visitacion) were in charge of the night’s event. Live band music entertained the small crowd; great food and drinks were offered and enjoyed by all. But of course, the customary banter of Rotarians livened up the whole evening. The RI Director himself engaged the audience with his storieseschewing the usual formal message for an insider’s report on what goes on in the upper echelons of power. 

PDG Fabie Enriquez of District 3800, PR’s Finance, Credit & Collection Coordinator gave a brief history of the awards night. After the delicious three-course dinner, Chiongbian went up the stage to announce the awardees. A total of 193 awards and certificates of recognition were given away under 11 categories: Club Loyalty Award, District Loyalty Award, Highest Subscription Increase, Highest Subscription Percentage, Highest Number of Subscriptions, Outstanding DGR-PR in Submitting Published Articles, Outstanding DGR-PR in promoting club subscriptions, Outstanding DGR-PR in collections, Outstanding DGR-PR in collection performance, Most Outstanding DGR-PR, Best Performing District Governor in promoting Philippine Rotary. The top awardees of the night were: PDG Oliver Ong, Most Outstanding DGR-PRM, and Immediate PDG Al Montecillo, Best Performing District Governor in promoting Philippine Rotary. The district that went home with the biggest number of awards was District 3850. Recognized for his “unwavering support  to the Philippine Rotary was the Outgoing PRMFI Chair Chiongbian.

At the end of the program, Philippine Rotary received a welcome gift from the Philippine Rotary Golf Inc. PDG Efren Martinez.
