Rotary Club Calbayog holds a four-day free eye clinic

The four-day free eye operation of the Rotary Club of Calbayog was exhausting but fulfilling. Almost a thousand patients were given eye check-up and examination; out of these, 29 cataract and nine pterygium cases were successfully operated on at Our Lady of Porziuncola Hospital.

Titled “Oplan Sagip Mata,” the project was conducted by RC Calbayog with the Rotaract of Ibatan-Calbayog in partnership with the Local Government Unit, Borough Medical Institute & Center for Sight, Ephpheta Foundation for The Blind Inc., I-SENZ Pharma Inc., I’sPlant Hotel, and OLPHI Medical Institute.

The operations were done by a medical team composed of Dr. Jerome Mary Sarmiento, Dr. Gabriel Juan Heredia, Dr. Federico Aranzamendez III, and nurses. Rotarians in the medical profession also joined the team in the operating room: Rtn. Aileen Reyes, an ophtha-nurse, and Rtn. Richard Alovera III, a psychiatrist.

The Club is also grateful to project partners Paul Melvin Banal, Djoanah Melissa Cave, Ma. Gracia Carias, Crisanto Belo, and Anden Diomedes.
