May 2020 Issue of Philippine Rotary Magazine now available

The May 2020 Issue of the Philippine Rotary Magazine is now available.  The focus is on how the country is being ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic and how Rotarians and Rotary Clubs are rising to the challenge of helping frontliners and communities.  It takes creativity and will to skirt the constraints arising from a government mandated lockdown and the scarcity of support and personal protection equipment. But, nothing can put a Rotarian down.  Read how Rotarians overcame obstacles and be inspired by their superhuman deeds.

On the Cover –  “WE ARE ONE” is the rallying cry of the Rotary Club of Makati Premier District that is echoed by Rotarians everywhere who have affirmed their solidarity with the patients afflicted with COVID-19 and their healers.  As goods (such as PPE sets) started arriving from China and other local suppliers, Ivy Santos, the club’s executive secretary, stepped up in a big way! Ivy volunteered her home as the delivery, packing and distribution center.  She counted, unpacked, sorted and repacked more than 115,000 items into individual boxes for the 80 hospitals.  Ivy made sure everything was disinfected and labeled them by hand.  When asked about her generous gesture, she humbly said, “it’s my contribution to the club’s kind deeds.  I’m doing it for the frontliners and my country.”  She has a new nickname.  We call her “Earth Angel”.  This issue is dedicated to her and to all Rotarians who answered the call of Service Above Self.
