RC Las Piñas Supports Project Ligtas COVID-19

The Rotary Club of Las Piñas (RCLP) has partnered with the City Government of Las Piñas and the Las Piñas City Health Office to prevent and control COVID-19

A facility known as LIGTAS 2 shall provide local isolation and general treatment areas for COVID-19 cases. RCLP is donating 2 swab booths and 2 tents for the facility. The tent and swab booths ensure the safety of the medical frontliners in administering the swab test to the patients.

September 19 marked the formal turnover at the Ligtas COVID-19 facility@Golden Acres National High School Annex, Talon Uno, Las Piñas City.

As the COVID-19 pandemic enters its sixth month of community quarantine in the country and community cases continue to rise nationwide, individuals who are experiencing flu-like symptoms have been advised to seek consultation. Only those that are 60 years old and above, with pre-existing illness, or with severe acute respiratory illness were referred to the hospital for further management. Those that are young and with mild illness were sent home for quarantine and labelled as Persons Under Investigation but not tested.

Home quarantine for individuals living in a highly dense urbanized city is not possible particularly for the urban poor, hence, inequity exists in this national decision that needs to be addressed. The health of the whole family of a possible COVID-19 infected person is compromised when social distancing cannot be practiced at home. Individuals who have mild symptoms whether tested or not should be placed in a facility where they can be isolated from the general population and receive the same medical treatment provided in the private sector. Therefore, there is a need to establish a community-managed facility or unit within a barangay, municipality, city or province, where contact, PUMs, PUIs and confirmed cases of COVID-19 with mild symptoms, whose home environment cannot support isolation.

The Department of Health (DOH) with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued Joint Administrative Order (JAO) No. 2020-0001, titled “Guidelines on LIGTAS COVID and the Community Based Management of Mild COVID-19 Cases” in order to guide Local Government Units (LGUs) in planning, establishing, and maintaining designated isolation or quarantine units in their localities for contacts, suspect, probable and confirmed cases of COVID-19. Hence, the establishment of Local Isolation and General Treatment Areas for COVID-19 cases (LIGTAS COVID Centre, and Mega LIGTAS COVID Centre), as Community Isolation Unit (CIU), for those COVID-19 cases whose conditions cannot support home quarantine.
