Rotary Project WALK team gives another kid a chance to walk

It was important for the Rotary Project WALK team to witness the “FIRST” walk of 6-year-old Cyle Jefferson Recabe-Gervero of Linabuan Norte, Kalibo, Aklan. And present, they were.

Without a right leg, Cyle grew up with a low self-esteem but the strong kid patiently waited for a chance to be able to walk on his own. His wait was not futile as the Rotary stepped in with its Project WALK to give him a prosthetic leg. After many attempts of measurement and fitting, the young boy is now excited to get his first pair of new shoes. Like what his back shirt says, “Up Up and Away,” Cyle will surely have his head straight up in no time.

His mother Roselyn was also present as she lovingly guided her son to walk. It was a heartwarming sight that the Rotarians were grateful to witness.

They were warmly welcomed by the WALK & WORK Foundation Iloilo Prosthetic and Rehabilitation Center team consisting of Jarold, Rolly, Christine and Gerard. These guys are also recipients of the foundation and are paying it forward.

Metro Kalibo PWD Committee, Past President Ricky Molo and Rotarian Add Ryan Rommel Martires, also joined the trip.
The Rotarians expressed gratitude to their partners: WALK Inc., sister club Rotary Club of Forbes Park (D3830), Walk & Work Foundation Iloilo Prosthetic and Rehabilitation Center and Physicians For Peace Philippines.
