Our Clubs

Rotary International and Lions Club International Came Together as One

Five future leaders of Rotary International and Lions Club International came together to discuss Fellowship, Leadership and Partnership.

Last January 7, a webinar for Rotarians entitled “Greatest Minds, Serving Communities” happened via Zoom.

Rotary International President-Elect (RIPE) Shekhar Mehta stated “Discussions will lead to Action, and then Evaluation.”
Lion Vice President Douglas Alexander then suggested “Each One, Bring One” for both Lions and Rotary Club Membership to flourish. Lion Brian Sheehan pointed out that the organizations must “Get quality members. Engage our members. Rejuvenate our club.”

RIPE Mehta seconded and commended this, “Each member must invite at least one potential member.” Lion Dr. Patti Hill stressed that “We live in constant change. New needs are reemerging. We need to offer the service that is needed. We need to adapt. We are doing service that matters.”

AP Singh, the moderator, then asked how do we evaluate the impact that we are making. Rotary International President Nominee Jennifer Jones highlighted that this is something that we can do better at.

Lion Douglas Alexander answered that evaluation is “to make use of technology, to post what our clubs are doing, and when people are saying thank you. We don’t always see the impact.”

RIPE Mehta concluded that we must “Reach out to each other. Expect the expertise of each other. The ultimate goal is to reach out.”

With more than 800 participants that were reached across the globe, this empowering webinar was brought to the Rotarians by Eastern India Lions Leadership Academy.

This piece was written by Transforming President Guia Lopez de Leon who attended on behalf of the Rotary Club of San Pedro South.
