Project: Docu of RCSPS

After “Project: Halimuyak” or the historical planting of 1,000 Sampaguita seedlings last March 16, another project rose. Transforming President Guia Lopez de Leon of the Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS), Mr. John Manzano of Tourism Office, and Engineer King Layola of the City Agriculture Office came up with “Project: Docu” or the documentation of “Sampaguita Industry Now and Then.”

TP Guia supports Agrotourism which is a direct expansion of ecotourism that encourages visitors to experience agricultural life at firsthand.

According to ecotourdirectory.com, Agrotourism is gathering strong support from small communities as rural people have realised the benefits of sustainable development brought about by similar forms of nature travel. Visitors have the opportunity to work in the fields alongside real farmers and wade knee-deep in the sea with fishermen hauling in their nets.

Together with Serbisyong May Puso, Alagang Kalusugan and Bayanihan Pilipinas, Yna Aguilar and Bernard Herrera started doing a documentary last March 18. With TP Guia, Sir John and Sir King, they interviewed local farmers on how Sampaguita helped the San Pedro City throughout the years.

They also tackled how bad weather, diminishing hectarage, urbanization, lifestyle changes and other factors become part of the problem. This documentation, in the long run, will surely help the growers take pride in their industry.

As put in by Engineer Layola, “We have the space, we have prepared the land in a short span of time… and we all just need to act. Yes, we need to act fast.”
