Rotarians Celebrate World Kidney Day 2021

At 2:30 in the afternoon of March 27, three Transforming Presidents (TP) of Rotary International District 3820, under District Governor Renato Sarmiento Atienza, attended a Webinar entitled “Living Well with a Kidney Disease.”

TP Guia Lopez de Leon of the Rotary Club of San Pedro South, TP Amy Lea of Rotary Club of Lucena  University District, and TP Loveday Alyssa of Rotary Club of Tayabas Central represented the Philippines in this International Webinar.

In conjunction with World Kidney Day 2021, the Rotary Club of Melawati, District 3300, and Malaysian Society of Nephrology (MSN) presented a two-hour webinar with updates and insights shared by experts in nephrology and the kidney transplant program.

Club President Siva Kumar also shared an End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patient’s journey. His story, indeed, is a source of inspiration for other patients and for those around him.

Apparently, in Malaysia, Rotary was hands-on in the establishment of the National Kidney Foundation. In Klang, the Haemodialysis Association Klang has been providing affordable dialysis treatment for end-stage kidney failure patients in and around Klang since 1996. This is a non-profit community service project sponsored by the Rotary Club of Klang. In Johor, The Rotary Club of Johor Bahru Haemodialysis Centre was established earlier in 1992.

The webinar inspired the above-mentioned Filipino Rotarians to apply for a Global Grant related to this.

The informative and inspiring webinar, with a live broadcast, ended at around 4:10 pm.
