Rotarians Extend Mercy Thru “Book For A Cause”

At the time when hope among some of our brethren are waning due to the economic repercussions of COVID-19, the Rotary Club of Mandaluyong Uptown (RCMU) partnered with the Rotary Club of Greater Mandaluyong (RCGM) to raise funds in support of the Mercy Rice Campaign of Fr. Roland Jaluag.

The campaign intends to distribute sacks of rice to those who are badly affected by the pandemic. Using Fr. Roland’s words, these are our brethren from the ultra-poor sector.

The fund was raised through the generosity of Ms. Heidi Mendoza (former Interactor, former COA Commissioner and Former Undersecretary General for the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight). RCMU and RCGM sold books of Ms. Heidi (Audit is Life!), and the net proceeds from selling the books was used to buy and distribute 78 sacks of 25-kg rice.

TP Jake and TP Mics were both so overwhelmed when they saw how their effort touched the lives of the recipients. All of the recipients were also overwhelmed with happiness that words were not enough to express their gratitude. Thankful tears gleamed across their happy faces as well.

Ms. Heidi, Gov. Tonipi Paruñgao and Fr. Roland also shared their message to the Rotarians who worked to make the project successful, and they also imparted encouraging words to the beneficiaries for them not to lose hope and to also do good to their neighbors in their own ways.

TP Jake shared that it was one of his proud moments as he continues to lead RCMU in pursuing Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”
