Rotary brings light through Project IWAG sa BARRIO

Project IWAG sa BARRIO is a joint community project by the Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo (D3850), Rotary Club of Makati (D3830), Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO), Provincial Advisory Council for Police Transformation and Development (PAC PTD), 2nd Aklan Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC). It is in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Aklan and Aklan Baghay, Inc., and in cooperation with media partners, Kalibo Cable TV Network and Love Radio.

Last June 15, a memorandum of understanding was signed for the aforementioned project. Health protocols limited the number of people who attended the event. Present were 2nd Aklan Provincial Mobile Force Company, PMAJ Donnel P. Regis represented by PLT Donie Magbanua (4th Platoon Leader), BagongBayan Brgy Chairman Dante Dominguez, 2nd Aklan PMFC Provincial Advisory Council Chairman SP Board Member Jay Tejada and member Mr. Alan Palma, and Philippine Red Cross Aklan DRM Chapter Representative Ritchell Joy Villarias. Public Image Director Megs Lunn represented Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo (D3850) Pres. Rosie Reyes and Rotary Club of Makati (D3830) Pres. Peter Manzano.

The two clubs donated THE FOUR WAY TEST tarpaulin as guide for LGU Buruanga Barangay BagongBayan Chairman Dante Dominguez, on the things Rotarians think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIP? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Also present was Pat Jade Rebenito of the 2nd Aklan Mobile Force Company.  A few of the guidelines will be posted in the area where Project IWAG SA BARRIO will be present.

Because most areas were temporarily in lockdown, only a few of the 86 recipients received their solar lamps on the same day.

Among the happy recipients were Benigno Espillo, Romeo Delos Reyes, Presentacion Domingo, Sophia Villanueva, Leonida Barbado, Servando Alvarez and Arthur Dominguez—all from Barangay BagongBayan, Buruanga, Aklan. They also received provisions of food.

Some identified barangays from LGUs Buruanga, Ibajay and Nabas will also receive the said solar lamp. This will temporarily help aid the children in their schooling as they work on their modules at night.

According to the brainchild PAC member Mr. Alan Palma, the very aim of the project is to connect the far flung area with electricity from providers such as Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO). It will likewise help resolve peace and conflict in the area. “Light means progress,” Alan reiterated.
