Rotary leads Voter’s Registration Campaign 2021

The Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo (D3850), its sister club Rotary Club of Makati (D3850) and Eleksyon 2022 Koalisyon, successfully launched #YourVoteYourVoice 2021 last June 12. The event was in collaboration with Rotary Clubs in Metro Manila, Baguio City, Tuguegarao, Sorsogon, Ilocos Sur and Aklan.

In Aklan, the launch was in cooperation with COMELEC Aklan, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) Diocese of Kalibo, St. Joseph The Worker Parish (Numancia), Parish Youth Ministry Numancia, Municipal Police Station (Numancia) and media partners Kalibo Cable Television Network, Inc. and Love Radio.

It was last September 1, 2020, when sister club Rotary Club of Makati inked a memorandum of agreement with the Parish Pastoral Council on Responsible Voting (PPCRV) to “coordinate and collaborate as partners for the purpose of undertaking voters’ registration and education campaigns and volunteer mobilization and poll watching activities related to the May 2022 national and local elections.”

The campaign comes in three stages: voters’ registration, voters’ education, and poll watching. The Phase 1, the voters’ registration campaign, is scheduled to run for 13 months until the last day of registration on September 30, 2021.

Rotary’s partner “Eleksyon 2022 Koalisyon: Magparehistro. Bumoto. Para sa  Bukas  Natin”, is a coalition designed  to unify all initiatives  and reinforce all  efforts at ramping up voter registration programs across the country and to provide resources for communities to organize their own campaigns.

Among the special guests was Atty. Christian S. Monsod, a Filipino lawyer who served as Chairman of the Commission on Elections. He was one of the framers of the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines. He is the founder and honorary chairman of the Legal Network for Truthful Elections and pioneer of the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections.

“It may mean sacrifices for the cause, because sacrifice is the currency of love. The power is in our hands. If I may quote Alice Walker, “Remember that the common way to give up power is by thinking they don’t have any,” shared Monsod.

Former Commissioner Atty. Goyo Larrazabal also joined as a special guest during the livestream via Zoom. He underscored the importance of the campaign. “Our lives and futures depend on it. Your life depends on the vote you cast for May 2022. This is a life and death situation, the life hangs on the balance of your vote and it will determine how good your life will be in the next future. I do it for the people I loved. To get a better life is to continually ask others to register and vote. Let us continually push people to participate in the election because your vote is your future,” Goyo reiterated.

Likewise, Rotaract Club of Makati launched the Tiktok Challenge to promote voter registration through this popular social media platform.

The other participating clubs during the successful motorcade were Rotary Club of Alabang, Rotary Club of Daang-Hari, Rotary Club of Alabang Lampara, Rotary Club of Baguio Summer Capital, Rotary Club of Ayala Triangle, Rotary Club of Makati Business District, Rotary Club of Makati Central, Rotary Club of Makati Greenbelt, Rotary Club of Makati Olympia, Rotary Club of Makati New World, Rotary Club of Makati North, Rotary Club of Makati San Lorenzo, Rotary Club of Makati Paseo de Roxas, Rotary Club of Paseo de Magallanes, Rotary Club of Makati Poblacion, Rotary Club of Makati West, Rotary Club of Muntinlupa, Rotary Club of Makati Pio del Pilar, Rotary Club of Rockwell, Rotary Club of Makati San Antonio, Rotary Club of Makati Southwest, Rotary Club of Muntinlupa Central, Rotary Club of Muntinlupa Filinvest, Rotary Club of Muntinlupa North, Rotary Club of Metro Sorsogon, Rotary Club of Narvacan, Rotary Club of Paranaque, Rotary Club of Paranaque Central, Rotary Club of Paranaque Metro South, Rotary Club of Paranaque San Dionios, Rotary Club of Paranaque St. Andrew, Rotary Club of Paranaque Poblacion, and Rotary Club of Vigan.
