RC San Ildefonso makes use of topiary to send End Polio message

Topiary is the horticultural or gardening practice of training perennial plants by clipping the foliage and twigs of trees, shrubs and subshrubs to develop and maintain clearly defined shapes, whether geometric or fanciful and letters or words.

The term also refers to plants which have been shaped in this way. RC San Ildefonso President Martin Hinlo thought of sourcing topiary from 3rd party gardeners for the End Polio Now social media campaign. He changed his mind at the last minute because he thought of something more practical.

He planted seeds of “Upland Kangkong” in the shape and form of End Polio Now. After 10 days, the topiary is very good enough for the picture taking of RC of San Ildefonso. The said pictures were posted in the members’ respective Facebook accounts for the social media campaign of End Polio Now. It garnered many likes from the members’ families, friends and even foreigners that they do not even know—they may be Rotarians themselves or may be not at all. They just simply like the topiary for its uniqueness.

The surprise finale was President Hinlo harvesting the shoots of Upland Kangkong which he added to his vegetable dish.
