Rotary Club of Kalibo (RCK) turns over books to an elementary school

The Interact Club of Regional Science High School-Region VI (RSHS-VI) led by President Janna Libuna initiated the book drive named “KinaBOOKasan campaign” collecting a total of 639 books, consisting of academic, fiction & non-academic books through the guidance of their school Principal, Ms. Maria Santia Arboleda and Interact Advisers, Ms. Merly Bustamante & Mary Kirstin Magallanes.

The 424 books were donated to New Washington Elementary School benefiting 1,400 pupils and 215 of which will be donated to Tugas-Dumga Elementary School benefiting 280 pupils. 40 pupils of this school comes from Hagachac where the Rotary Club of Kalibo (RCK) has an established Rotary Community Corps. Last November 20, 2021, the RCK led by President Josephine Sampaton-Montinola together with AG Alexys Apolonio, Rtn. Claire Tayco and Rtn. Jayr Villaruel joined in the observance of National Reading Month and turned over the books to New Washington Elementary School. The “Libruan” campaign of the said school inspire parents & their children to read and bridge the gap in learning. This initiative encouraged pupils to borrow books from their school library and as an incentive to the pupil, the pupil then gets a chance to borrow a toy of his choice to enjoy at home. This book drive campaign also supports  education for all children and literacy for children and adults, as one of Rotary International’s Areas of Focus.

With the limitations imposed by the pandemic, the school has reached out to the community to bring the books to children’s home. The program at the turnover was hosted by the Supreme Pupil Government under the guidance of Dr. Imelda Fuentes.
