Rotary Club of Bongao collaborates with Rotaract Club of MSU TCTO to plant mangroves

The Rotary Club of Bongao (D3850) and its Rotaract Club of MSU TCTO, together with various partner agencies in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi celebrate International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystems on July 26, 2022 by planting mangroves along the coastline of Brgy. Pagasinan, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

RC Bongao President Dr. Richard Nami Muallil, at the same the Director of the Office of Continuing Education and Extension Services of MSU TCTO, the lead agency for the activity, briefed the participants about the activity and gave a short lecture about the importance of mangrove ecosystems particularly on the ecosystem services that benefit the community, including a. fisheries production b. recreation and culture c. water filtration d. carbon storage and e. coastal protection. 

Rotarian Ma. Vema Gaticales of LGU Bongao talked about the various initiatives of the LGU on environmental conservation including the establishment of mangrove nursery, which was the source of the sapplings that were planted for the activity.

Environment is one of the 7 area of focus of Rotary International. Rotary supports activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance environmental sustainability, and foster harmony between people and the environment.
