The month of September is Basic Education and Literacy which is part of Rotary area of focus. The Rotary Club of Zamboanga City (D3850) organize a Gift Giving project to the learners of Sinubung Elementary School.
Mostly of the students here have not experienced going to a mall or have not seen one, because of the distance and location of their barangay.The Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City led by its president DJ Go, decided instead of just donating via handling over to each students school supplies, the Rotarians brought 100 students to Budgetwise Ayala to let them feel and experienced going and buying in a store, and also educate them on how to financially budget their money in doing shopping for their school supplies.
Each student in Kindergarten is given a gift certificate of P300, we let them decide to buy the school supplies that they really need. They did not just received school supplies, but they gained the experience on how to handle money at their young age, plus the experience of being in an actual big store, in which this experience will surely last in their memory for a lifetime.After the kids were done with their shopping, the club provided them with our formula of nutribun and other snacks as part of our club’s feeding activity.To also help the school, the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City donated to the school library boxes of various learning materials like books, a World Globe map, etc. in which other learners of that school will also benefit.
As part of Rotary’s focus on Basic Education and Literacy, the club organized the event that brought joy to the faces of countless children. For many of these students, who come from remote barangays, it was their first time experiencing a mall. The smiles on their faces are a true treasure, and something that our club will cherish for a lifetime.
