District Governor (DG) LINDON SEE DIET decided to hold the 2019 District Conference (DISCON) in his hometown of Dipolog. The entire city, led by its Mayor DAREL DEXTER UY, pulsated with Rotary energy. Banners about the big event were put up and transistor radios and the television set at the port area repeatedly played the DISCON’s ad promotion. It also went viral on social media.
It is the first time that DG Lindon’s club, the Rotary Club of Dipolog, ably assisted by RC Dapitan, hosted a DISCON, the culminating activity in a governor’s year in the Rotary world. Chaired by Past President FLINT CONCHA, the DISCON opened at the Zamboanga Del Norte Sports and Convention Center with the parade of clubs, each proudly holding their “Be the Inspiration” club banner. This was followed by the most awaited street dancing parade with a variety of band music plus the famous Ati-Atihan drumbeats at the tail-end brought along by the Rotarians from Western Visayas.
More than 500 participants enjoyed the route of about 1.5km from the cultural center to the magnificent sunset by the boulevard where a dinner showcasing the region’s cuisine was served. As Mayor Uy said: “Rotary has been our partner in making this city a livable place for our locals and our visitors.”
Such authentic celebration was enjoyed by the Rotary International President’s Representative, Past District Governor (PDG) CONCRETE MUTU HSIEH from Taipei. Lending their support as well to DG Lindon and District 3850 were JUN FARCON, Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator, and BOYET LIMON, Rotary Public Image Coordinator.
