Oplan: Kawaii—RCSPS Supports Online Sellers

Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS) President Guia de Leon shares her thoughts on online selling and narrates how one of the club’s projects started

I just saw a post of one auntie asking my friend why is she into online selling now. Her aunt even posted in the comment section, “Graduate ka naman ng college, pero bakit dyan ka nagpo-focus? Tinamaan ka ba ng COVID-19?” (You’re a college graduate, but why are you focusing in that? Were you hit by COVID-19?)

Well, it can be out of her tita‘s curiosity. But still, this serves as an eye-opener for me. Why, on earth, is she disregarding her niece’s efforts? Is the “buyer” really higher than the “seller”?

This reminds me of the billionaire Jack Ma. He once said: “When selling to friends or family members, no matter what price you sell, they always feel you are making money from them. No matter how cheap they are, they won’t appreciate it. The simple reason is because these people always think: How much money can he make from him? Instead of thinking: How much did he save me?”

“Oplan: Kawaii” officially started last May 17. Since then, I make sure to send weekly photos of the online items available to our club members or to other Rotarians. Once there’s an order, I even deliver it for free. After all, the orders enable me to keep in touch with all members, especially the Senior Citizens, during this quarantine.

This also serves as RC San Pedro South’s “kaway” or tap. Yes, we are tapping into everyone’s consciousness that online selling is a noble profession. This includes the riders who make sure that we receive our items in dainty condition.

Repeat: Online selling is a noble career.

And of course, Kawaii means “cute” in Japanese, and it is associated with a pop-culture aesthetic of such things as cuddly animals and pink hearts. For millennials like me (yes! 🥰), the word is a strong compliment. Kawaii describes something pretty, usually carrying a connotation of innocence.

After all, our online sellers are our cute, adorable and loving angels that are helping us, too, in our daily grind. Finally, kaway-kaway po sa lahat ng mga Kawaii! #KawaiiMovement
