On November 26, 2020, the Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS) hosted a Disaster Preparedness Webinar entitled “Be Aware, Be Alert And Be Prepared: Safety Is A Way Of Life” via Zoom. The Rotary Club of Santa Rosa West (RCSRW) and the Rcsps New Generations served as the co-presentors
After watching the vlog of Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr about this topic few weeks ago, Transforming President Guia Lopez de Leon of the RCSPS immediately realized that he should be one of the honorable speakers. TP Guia prayed hard, and waited for some signs.
But how can a simple club like RCSPS invite a senator to attend a club Zoom meeting to impart his knowledge? TP Guia sent a PM to his angelic team members namely Ms. Beth, Ms. Cha and Ms. Honey Rose. Waiting was a test of Faith… and yes, miracles are for real.
Meanwhile, Immediate Past President (PP) Pol Castillo, owner of Casper Cares, informed TP Guia of the possibility of having the Disaster Preparedness Chief of MMDA to grace the event. TP Guia instantly googled the name Colonel Gerry Ilagan, and saw that he is one of the most sought-after speakers in Rotary events. Another Miracle unfolded.
The third speaker was the very famous District Governor Nominee Gina GS Sy of the Rotary International District 3820. She mentioned of being mobile on that day. TP Guia, in return, assured her that it’s okay to just send a video message. Fortunately, she was able to join live. Another favor from above.
Last but not the least, the fourth honorable guest speaker was PP Sonny Ongkiko of RC West Bay. Actually, it was District Governor Renato Sarmiento Atienza who commended him for his noble contributions in the District. And although PP Sonny was just informed few days prior to the event, he amazingly came in truly prepared with at least thirty minutes of Powerpoint presentation. He even sent via e-mail his slides so that the RCSPS team can share it to more people. What a generous soul!
Finally, this webinar wasn’t just a webinar. It was composed of stories of how a little David wanted to fight all the Goliaths (of fear, insecurities, agonies) along the way. With utmost gratitude, the whole RCSPS family is forever grateful with the presence of these honorable guest speakers. May God bless them all the more!
