Project Estrella and More!

Last March 3, Transforming President (TP) RJ Trivino Manalo of the Rotary Club of San Juan (RCSJ) went to give an all-out support to the various projects of their newest Sister Club, the Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS). Both clubs are under District Governor Renato Sarmiento Atienza of Rotary International District 3820.

First on the list of projects was “Project Estrella.” This is in support of the livelihood of hardworking women in Barangay Estrella, City of San Pedro, Laguna. The main source of income in the area is sewing masks, pillows, aprons, bags, shirts, etc.

With TP Guia Lopez de Leon of RCSPS, TP RJ and Ms. Apple visited this barangay recommended by Bernard Herrera of Serbisyong May Puso and Alita Alon Alon Mercado of the Office of the Vice Mayor. The women of Estrella are famous for their truly exceptional sewing skills.

As approved by fellow president TP Benjamin Garcia of the Rotary Club of San Pedro, this is also part of TP Guia’s ocular inspection on various global grants based in San Pedro. This building is actually a Global Grant and was named Seongnam Daewon Rotary Club Vocational School.

After buying some items from the sewers, which by the way are set to be a part of another gift-giving project entitled “Auto-bought Gifts,” the TPs gave them some presents like school supplies for their kids, newly harvest vegetables, water, vitamins, etc. The moms were ecstatic. Moreover, TP Guia and TP Charles Jiro of the Interact Adelina 1 National High School promised to return soon for more orders.

Then, the team went to a grandmother whose posts in Social Media became viral. The TPs showed love and utmost concern, and handed her some groceries. According to lola, she misses pancit so much. Fortunately, there’s pancit in the relief goods.

Then, they did a courtesy call to the Barangay Hall. They were able to discuss their joint Agricultural Projects like hydrophonics. And since March is Water and Sanitation Month of Rotary, RCSPS and RCSJ officially started on this day their “Project Water” or simply giving water to various barangays.

After this, they went to continue with “Proteksyong Rotaryo” or distribution of free contraceptives. They roamed around the area, and discussed the importance of having a good family planning. The contraceptives, by the way, were sponsored by TP Loveday Alyssa  of the Rotary Club of Tayabas Central and TP Amy Lea of the Rotary Club of Lucena University District.

After three hours or so, the team headed to support again the restaurant business of their friend, TP Benjamin. Fellowship with their respective families started, and so, they thought that they can already call it a day.

But Ms. Maine of “Corn For A Cause” dropped by, and TP Guia bought 30 kilos of organic corn again this week to also support the environment. Plus, the corn served as TP Guia’s tokens for her very special guests all the way from San Juan, Batangas.

It was such a long day but a very productive one. After all, for Rotarians across the globe, helping is not CORNy. It will never be.
