RCSPS President represents Rotary in the “Pag-aalay webXhibition and Festival”

Last February 28, Transforming President (TP) Guia Lopez de Leon of the Rotary Club of San Pedro South represented the Rotary Philippines in the nationwide “Pag-aalay webXhibition and Festival” of the University of the Philippines.

The Pag-aalay webXhibition and Festival is an online festival of short videos in the categories of Narrative, Animation, Experimental, Documentary, and Music Video that celebrate the various acts of kindness, generosity, and sacrifice that everyday Filipinos selflessly give, extend, and share to fellow Filipinos in need during this challenging time of the pandemic.

TP Guia showed in her short film entitled “Amidst the Pandemic” how Rotarians are being part of the solution. She sent her entry without any production cost because the files were just in her phone. Her video was created in just a short span of time and yet her entry was able to make it as a Finalist. Thanks to her utmost dedication in truly giving a genuine service above self.

The event, by the way, showcased the acts of kindness, generosity, and sacrifice of our everyday heroes through the eyes of our filmmakers, communicators, and multimedia artists.

As put in by U.P. President Danilo L. Concepcion, “Committing these stories and experiences to film is not only to honor the subject’s heroism but also instill hope and determination in the filmmaker and the audiences it will reach. The global pandemic is a shared experience which no one can come out of unaffected.”The Board of Judges for the festival are comprised by National Artist for Music and Former Dean of the U.P. College of Music, Dr. Ramon Santos (Chair of the Board of Judges); U.P. Film Institute Professor and Member of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, Dr. Rolando Tolentino; Cinema Historian and faculty member and Academic Coordinator of the U.P. Film Institute, Assoc. Prof. Nick Deocampo; faculty member of the U.P. Film Institute and Director of the UP-CMC Office for Extension and External Relations, Asst. Prof. Roehl Jamon; and faculty member of the U.P. Film Institute and documentary filmmaker, Asst. Prof. Adjani Isabel Arumpac.

TP Guia, with a sole entry for Rotary, is proud to be part of this prestigious event. But more than anything, she is proud to have showcased how relevant even a single Rotary Club is amidst the pandemic. In fact, with the very little that the Rotary Club of San Pedro South have been given, with all efficiency, the club truly rose from the ashes.

And this event is one of her many loving legacies… an impact like no other.
