RCSPS Maximizes The Power of Connecting to Fellow Rotarians Amidst A Pandemic

After spearheading the Global Forum on August 2020, the Rotary Club of San Pedro South (RCSPS) of Rotary International District 3820 has been receiving random invitations from various Rotary Clubs across the globe.

On May 1, 2021 at around 10:00 pm, Transforming President Guia Lopez de Leon of RCSPS was the sole representative of the Philippines in a very engaging Virtual Rotary Friendship Exchange 2021 – Part 2.

TP Guia truly enjoyed the opportunity to connect and discuss cultural diversity, to build goodwill and foster peace, to strengthen international friendship, and more with the representatives of Rotary International Districts 4130 (Mexico), 4140 (Mexico), 4170 (Mexico), 4281 (Colombia), 4465 (Peru), 7080 (Canada), 3080 (India), 9140 (Nigeria) and 9150 (consisting of ten countries namely Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, CAR, DRC, Rwanda, Sao Tomé & Principe, Chad).

Rotarians across the globe participated and showcased the culture and heritage of their own respective countries. The first virtual Rotary Friendship Exchange was held on April 19, 2021 at 12:00 midnight, and TP Guia was also the sole representative from Southeast Asia. It was President Sanjay Bhatia who mainly hosted the Zoom Event.

Come May 2, 2021 at 7 pm, Transforming President (TP) Guia Lopez de Leon of RCSPS attended another informative webinar about “Easy To Grow Plants For Boosting Your Immunity.”

The resource speaker, Chetna Bhalla, is the brain behind the *GetMyHarvest* YouTube channel. She is truly passionate about gardening and staying close to nature. Her goal is to engage everyone to get at least one meal per week from their own kitchen garden and engage generations in gardening.

The resource speaker specifically mentioned broccoli, garlic, red bell peppers, peas, spinach and bitter gourd as immunity-boosting vegetables. She even taught some cooking techniques like stir-frying, sautéing, steaming, grilling, and baking to make the dishes more appetizing for the family.

In RID 3820, spearheaded by District Governor Renato Sarmiento Atienza, there are a lot of interesting webinars like this one, too. In fact, on June 8, 2020, Past President Gary Hidalgo of the Rotary Club of Bay and Deputy District Governor Alex Reuyan of the Rotary Club of Pila West conducted a “Webinar in Urban Gardening – A Pre Kick Off Activity.”

Rotarians and Rotaractors participated in this fun and lively webinar of Miss Chetna Bhalla. It was Rotaract Club of Ingenious Beings who mainly hosted the Zoom Event.

On May 6, 2021 at 8:00 pm, Transforming President (TP) Guia Lopez de Leon and Rotarian Justin Interno of RCSPS were the representatives of the Philippines in another webinar about “Water Solutions on the Ground.”

The resource speakers were Dr. S. Sri Umeswara, Founder & CEO of ESECO Sdn. Bhd (Circular Economy Enablers), and Ts. Dr. Sivapalan Kathiravale, Head of the Centre of Excellence for Waste Management in Malaysia under the patronage of CENVIRO and Khazanah National.

It was DAGES and Rotary District 3300 who hosted the Zoom Event.

On May 7, 2021 at 1:00am, TP Guia represented once again RCSPS in the joint club meeting of the Rotary Club of Abuja Federal and Rotary Club of Abuja, Ministers Hill.

The topic entitled “Reducing Maternity and Infant Mortality in Developing Countries” was very interesting. Past District Governor Mohan Chandavarkar served as the main Guest Speaker.

Indeed, one of the silver linings of this pandemic is the opening of opportunities to connect to the world. With this power, Rotarians across the globe can truly serve above themselves to change lives.
