RC Metro Kalibo continues Project TOilet

Lack of access to adequate water supply,  insufficient toilet and proper handwashing facilities, and failure to practice hygiene behavior remain as key contributors to hygiene and sanitation challenges, especially in the rural areas.

DepEd WinS (WASH in School) data shared that, “about 43.7 percent and 44.7 percent of preschool age and school-age children, respectively, in the country have soil-transmitted helminth infections. Other factors in relation to this are poverty, lack of access to safe and clean water, and poor sanitation and hygiene.”

The Department of Education demands a school-based solid waste management facility, yet they have shortage of funds. So, they call upon Teachers to partner with other stakeholders and NGO’s.

Around the world, Rotary has been an ally to public schools and poorest community by helping either to give toilet bowls or install toilets for boys and girls, including hand washing facilities and access to potable water. In Aklan since July 1, 2021 to present, we have distributed 119 toilet bowls plus a number of hand pumps, water tanks, handwashing and toilet facilities. This is also in response to one of our area of focus in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Maternal and Child Health, Peace and Environment.

Today, on behalf of life changing president Loida M. Enero, Director for Public Image PP Megs Lunn turned over two toilet bowls to Sta. Cruz Biga-a Elementary School OIC Ms. Jonida T. Antonino and witnessed by Barangay Chairman Jean F. Retuba.

Thank you to D3850 Governor Edwin G. TO, for supporting this advocacy of two TOilets bowls each month. TOgether, we Serve to Change Lives.
